Why?  To support the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimers, strengthen our community’s Falls Prevention efforts, AND promote WMEC togetherness by working as a team to support a common goal and good causes.

As many of you know, in Septembers past, WMEC has participated in the Walk to End Alzheimers fundraiser at Holyoke Community College.  In addition, last year, we had a staff “team” event to honor Falls Prevention Week, which is traditionally observed in the last full week of September.

Like so many other things in COVID Times, the Walk to End Alzheimers will be happening virtually this year.  Rather than meeting at HCC on a Sunday morning, participants are asked to walk on their own, collecting miles and pledges.  However, we are still going to participate as “Team WMEC” and hope you will join us!

Join TEAM WMEC by registering here and making a fitness commitment for the month of September.  You choose how and how much “fitness” works for you.  Can you pledge to walk “20 miles for 2020?”  Great!  If that feels like too much, you can log the miles you run or walk as part of your regular fitness routine.  Whatever distance works for you, when you join Team WMEC your miles will be counted as WMEC Miles and together we’ll show great solidarity in our support for Alzheimers Association and Falls Prevention!

I walk every morning to have quiet, reflective time, and to give my dog Betty a morning walk. I am happy to put my daily walks to a great cause.

Noreen Desroches

I walk because taking a walk is a peaceful time to think, be outside and take a break while getting some exercise.

Celebrate with us!

Friday, September 25 | 3 – 5 PM

Whether you choose to Walk to End Alzheimers, walk across the bridge in recognition of Falls Prevention week, or just come to enjoy your coworkers, join your WMEC team members at a socially-distanced, safe, outdoor, family friendly gathering. This event is open to family and kids and will feature a Batch Ice Cream Truck – Yum!

I walk for the fresh air and movement to help me clear my head of COVID-clutter and stress!  And I’m happy to walk in support of this great cause.
