“Frail Elder Waiver”

For those seeking to maintain the comfort and familiarity of their own homes while receiving essential care, the Frail Elder Waiver is designed to offer older adults an alternative to nursing home care by providing access to vital resources that enable them to remain at home.

To qualify, you must have MassHealth Standard, and meet specified income levels.  However, the income level for the Frail Elder Waiver is higher than traditional MassHealth Standard, currently set at $2,742 monthly ($32,904 annually) with total assets not exceeding $2,000. Unlike other programs, the assets and income of a community spouse are not taken into consideration, and assets may be transferred to a spouse without incurring penalties.  WestMass ElderCare’s Benefit and SHINE Counselors can provide additional guidance regarding asset limits.

Services under the plan can include companion service, adaptive equipment, homemaker or personal care attendant services, home health aide, home delivered meals, and laundry help, among others.

Assessment by a Nurse is required.  Call us today if you feel you or a loved one would like assistance in exploring this option further.
