An Ombudsman visits residents of area nursing and rest homes every week to hear their concerns. They help to promote the belief that each of us has the right to a quality life, and that this right should be protected. Ombudsman also believe that through their efforts, they can make a difference in the life of someone who needs them. Ombudsman (Scandinavian word meaning representative of the people) is trained and certified by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs. He/she receives and investigates complaints, in confidence, on behalf of residents, their families and other interested parties. They provide information and referral to connect people with available long term care and community resources.

A
Companion provides socialization and transportation to lonely, frail and homebound elders. S/he brightens the day for a lonely elder with something as simple as a smile and conversation; and helps elders remain in their homes as long as possible with something as basic as transportation to a doctor's appointment and errands.

A
Money Management Volunteer assists low income, frail elders with paying bills, writing checks, budgeting and balancing a checkbook. The goal is to facilitate the elder's continued at-home, independent lifestyle.

An Office Volunteer helps out with bulk mailings, assembling documents, copying, etc.

Home Delivered Meal Driver opportunities are available in the WMEC Nutrition Department.  Volunteer drivers may work 12 hours per week delivering hot delicious meals to homebound elders.  Hours are 10:30am to 1:00pm, Monday through Friday except holidays.  A rewarding experience while brightening the day of our elders.
